Andrew Reego will leave USC as a four-time NCAA champion in water polo.
The Trojans claimed their fourth consecutive title with a 7-4 victory over UCLA in the NCAA final Dec. 5 in Berkeley.

Reego, a graduate of Granite Bay High School, turned a steal into a counter-attack goal during USC’s 17-4 victory over Princeton in a semifinal Dec. 4.

USC coach Jovan Vavic described Reego as a driver and sprinter who scores goals.

“He has really been a part of it from the beginning,” Vavic said. We are really lucky to have him. He’s a scorer, a very fast swimmer.”

Vavic said Reego “fought very hard” to make the Trojans’ traveling squad this season after playing off and on in tournaments the last three years. Reego was a full-time player this season and scored nine goals.

“He did a great job in training,” Vavic said. “He was just a little mosquito when he joined us, like 150 pounds, and this kid is right now 185, masculine and strong. He’s a different human being.”

Loder now 16-0 after win over Iowa wrestler

Ryan Loder opened the University of Northern Iowa’s dual meet against No. 1 Iowa on Thursday with a 13-2 major decision over Vinnie Wagner in the 184-pound match.

That lifted Loder to 16-0 this season, but it was Northern Iowa’s only win in a 38-4 loss to the Hawkeyes in front of a crowd of 7,078 in Iowa City.

Loder was coming off a tournament championship in the UNI Open, when he went 4-0 with two pins and a technical fall before a 13-3 major decision over Mitchell Schultz of Upper Iowa.

Roseville player is back in Jessup lineup

Senior Anthony Anderson scored a team-high 13 points in his first game back from an injury in William Jessup University’s 52-47 loss to New Hope Christian on Thursday night in Eugene, Ore.

Anderson, a graduate of Granite Bay, was an All-California Pacific Conference second-team pick last season, when he averaged 10.6 points and shot 45 percent from three-point range, 15th in the nation in NAIA Division II.
