Rachael Hellyer, who led Folsom High’s varsity softball team to the playoffs in the spring, has earned a scholarship.

Hellyer, 18, has signed to attend and play at Vanguard University, a private school in Costa Mesa. Hellyer pitched 117 innings for the Lady Bulldogs this spring, striking out 174 batters, while allowing only 56 hits. Opponents batted only .133 against her and her earned run average was 0.42.

Hellyer helped the Lady Bulldogs to a 14-6 record and a berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. At Vanguard she will major in Psychology and plans to pursue a Masters in Speech Pathology afterwards.
