In a classic opening round CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II girls’ playoff match-up Monday in Stockton, the arm and bat of St. Mary’s pitcher-hitter Kiana Parrish helped close the season for the Del Oro Lady Eagles.
Parrish, who has verbally committed to Fullerton State, set the Lady Eagles down on a four-hitter that included 12 strikeouts and just one walk. The senior pitcher also accounted for the game’s lone runs when she crashed a two-run homer in the fifth inning.
For Del Oro, which put two runners on in the seventh-inning but came up empty, Kelly Barr had two hits, including a double. Both Bella Clark and Taylor Urrutia added singles.
Amanda DuPriest pitched five frames and allowed just four hits while fanning seven. Katelyn Oldwin fanned three batters in one inning of work.
Earlier last week, Del Oro tuned up for the playoffs with an 11-0 win over Pioneer Valley League champion Lincoln.
Kaylee Winn collected three hits in four trips to the plate and also scored four runs. Maddie Moore went 2x4 with a double while Taylor Urrutia was 2x3. Brianna Bilich, Michalah Robison and Lillian Whitley all added doubles.
