Del Oro hammers way into playoffs

-A +A

Del Oro’s girls softball team followed a power hitting effort from freshman Maddie Moore and a solid pitching performance by Amanda DuPriest to earn a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoff berth Friday afternoon.

Playing at Rocklin, the Lady Eagles used a pair of home runs from Moore and a strong mound effort from DuPriest to turn back Rocklin, 5-1, and land the Lady Eagles a trip to the post season.

For Del Oro, the win upped the Lady Eagles’ Sierra Foothill League record to 8-4 and allows the Black and Gold to finish in a tie for second place in the SFL with Oak Ridge and Woodcreek. Granite Bay claimed the league title with a 10-2 mark.

Del Oro opened Friday’s scoring in the second inning when Michalah Robison (2x3, 2B, RBI)  drove in a run. Moore then upped the count to 2-0 when she led off the third inning with a solo homer.

In a two-run fifth, Moore (2 for 4, 3 RBI) homered again following a Kaylee Winn double.

Winn finished 2 for 3 with a diouble while Rylie Clark was 1 for 2 with a RBI.

DuPriest hurled all seven frames for the win. She spaced out five hits, fanned seven and walked two. Del Oro is 12-8-1 and will open the playoffs either May 14 or May 16.

Del Oro 6, Folsom 2: Lady Eagle hurlers Amanda DuPriest and Katelyn Oldwin combined efforts to stop Folsom on just five hits as Del Oro stayed on track in a tight league race for playoff berths.

DuPriest pitched four innings for the mound victory. She allowed two hits and fanned six batters. Oldwin, meanwhile, mopped up over the final three frames and gave up just three scattered hits.

Freshman Maddie Moore continued her big hitting for the Lady Eagles with a 2x4 game which included a double and two runs batted in. Bella Clark was also 2x3 while Brianna Bilich and Shay Shropshire both doubles. Lillian Whitley also contributed a two-run single.

Bear River 10, Placer 5: Justice Lewis went 3 for 5 and drove in five runs to power the Bruins past the Hillmen in the regular season finale. Gabi Royston was 1 for 4 with 3 RBI for the Bruins.

Kaitlyn Maddux added a 2-for-4 game and also earned the pitching win with seven strikeouts and two walks. Bear River’s (10-81, 8-2) playoff matchup was not available at press time.

For Placer (6-12, 6-4), Molly Williams went 2 for 4 while Zoey Lykins was 2 for 3 with a double and a pair of runs batted in. Taylor Kemis added a triple.

Placer 3, Colfax 2: The Hillmen had to survive a scare from Colfax on Wednesday to lock up the Pioneer Valley League’s third playoff berth. The Hillmen (6-11, 6-3) used a Zoey Lykins RBI base hit in the fifth inning to snap a 2-2 tie.

Colfax pitcher Elizabeth Moses proved tough on the Hillmen as she allowed just five hits and fanned nine Placer batters. At the plate, Rylee Bautista led the Lady Falcons (8-13-1, 2-7) with a 3-for-4 game while Taylor Gerhard added an RBI hit.

Jada Robinson, Hailey Smith and Mya Villareal-Andrieux all doubled for the Hillmen.
