The postseason seems to be agreeing with the Colfax High co-ed tennis team.

Last Wednesday, the Falcons, who finished second in the Pioneer Valley League, opened the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II co-ed playoffs with a commanding 8-1 win over Bradshaw Christian.

The victory for the No. 2 seed Falcons lands Colfax into a second round home match Monday against No. 6 seed Amador. The Thundering Herd advanced by upsetting No.. 3 seed Forest Lake Christian.

Then on Friday, competing at Louis Park in Stockton, the Colfax mixed doubles duo of Svea North and Aiden Gilfillan, both seniors, swept through four straight opponents to win the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div-IV-V tournament championship.

“Svea and Aiden went into the tournament unseeded but played just great,” said Colfax coach Paul Phillips on his two captains, who were eliminated last season in the semifinal round.

“They played like seniors today,” Phillips added. “To win in the finals like they did in straight sets really showed how steady and flawless they played.”

The North-Gilfillan team opened the tournament with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Lin Grider and Sam Johnson of Summerville before stopping Sue Olsen and Jim Bustillo of Waterford in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-3.
In the semifinals, the North-Gilfillan duo topped West Campus’ Jovan and Aguilar, 6-2, 7-6.

That set the stage for the championship match, where the Falcon pair disposed of Mountain House’s Tim Nayyar and Sany Linsangan, 6-0, 6-0.

In Colfax’s playoff win over Bradshaw Chrsitian, boys singles wins were notched by Gilfilan (6-2, 6-2) and Blake Havens (6-2, 6-4) and by North (6-2, 6-2) in girls singles.

In boys doubles,  J.J. Nielsen and  Jared Brewer  won 6-2, 6-1 while Jake Green and  Tucker Klopotek teamed for a 6-1, 6-1 win.

In girls doubles, Molly Wilson and Panka Kernacs won their match 6-3, 6-4 and Caleigh McClenahan teamed with Ambert Hult  for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 verdict. In mixed doubles, Carson Buol and Isabelle Sawi scored a 6-3, 6-2 win.
