Rocklin boys have playoffs in sight
The Rocklin High boys tennis team should qualify for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I Playoffs regardless of their outcome against the Sierra Foothill League’s No. 2 team, Oak Ridge.
At 7-4, the Thunder sits in third place in a league that typically sends four teams into the postseason.
Prior to a loss to the Trojans last week, Rocklin was enjoying a three-match win streak. The Storm’s only SFL losses have been to Granite Bay, Oak Ridge and Del Oro. In the Thunder’s final match against the Golden
Eagles, the boys in blue prevailed 7-2.
In a non-league match, Rocklin defeated a strong Pioneer club out of Woodland 5-4.
Sophomore Ethan Stanley took No. 1 singles 6-1, 7-6 and No. 2 Hayden Erl, a freshman, was a 6-2, 6-2 winner. Sophomore Karl Rosaluna claimed the No. 3 singles match 6-4, 4-6 0-0 (10-7) and junior Davin Nguyen rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 0-0 (10-7) victory.
Jalen Archer and Aaron Yoshigawa hung the W on the board with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 2 doubles. Archer is a junior and Yoshigawa a sophomore.
Top individual players are Erl 8-2 (5-0 playing No. 6), DJ Sobrepena 4-3, Stanley 5-6, Kian Shai 4-6 (No. 1 only) and Jack Russo 2-4.
Top doubles players are Cade Ulright with Jordan Winter (9-4) and Russo with Freddy Reiber 4-2. Ronak Brar with Alec Hammonds have a 7-2 record and Ethan Chan and Campbell are 4-1 in No. 3 doubles.
