Jr. Trojan Jr. Peewees win football championship

The Oak Ridge Jr. Trojans Jr. Peewee football team recently finished off a championship season.

The Jr. Trojans earned the title with an 8-6 win over the Folsom Jr. Bulldogs. The Jr. Trojans were the only team to score on, let alone beat, the Jr. Bulldogs all season. The championship was the second straight for this group of players, as last year the group won the Mighty Mite title, the first time in nine seasons an Oak Ridge Jr. Trojan team won a championship. Now they’ve got two in consecutive years.

The team features a very talented group of players with a coaching staff that dedicate themselves to teaching them the game. The coaching staff is led by head coach Evan Quan, who is assisted by Frank Quan, Kurt Tallstrom, John Rudnicki, Rick Maya, Tyler Andujar, Joe Mooney and Avery Harris. The team spent 18 weeks practicing a minimum of three nights a week to get where they were and what they earned.

The team celebrated the season at a local restaurant, The El Dorado Saloon. The owner, Ron Martin, who coaches on the high school varsity staff, spoke to the group of parents and players and emphasized the meaning of brotherhood and how what they have accomplished is not easily done. He encouraged them to stay focused on academics, being a good son to their families, a good citizen in our community and always supportive and encouraging to their teammates. Patrons in the restaurant applauded the boys for their success and even shared stories with the coaches. It was a great way to celebrate the end of their season.
