Despite a difficult season in the record columns, Placer girls volleyball landed a pair of seniors on the All-Foothill Valley League first team.
Seniors Amy Hiatt and Emily Wright earned All-League honors after what was a challenging first year for Placer in the newly formed Foothill Valley League.
The Lady Hillmen went 8-14 overall and just 3-7 in league and missed out on the postseason for the first time since 2005.
The senior outside hitter Hiatt led the team in kills (188), kill percentage (41.8%), hit percentage (.264), aces (53) and receptions (302). She also had 17 blocks and 112 digs on defense. Hiatt put up a season-high 17 kills against Lincoln Oct. 1, and contributed five double-doubles with kills-digs.
Wright, a senior middle blocker, had 101 kills, a 37.7 kill percentage, 17 blocks and 49 digs. She posted a season-high 10 kills Sept. 24 against Oakmont.
Ponderosa, who went 10-0 in the FVL and won its second straight Division II Sac-Joaquin Section championship Saturday, dominated the All-League team.
Outside hitter Julin Kinison was named the league’s Most Valuable Player, and Mike Yates was named Coach of the Year. The Bruins had four other players make the FVL First Team.
A third Placer senior, middle-outside hitter Bella Burgard, made honorable mention with 56 kills, a 33.5 kill percentage, 22 aces and a team-leading 30 total blocks. Burgard had four occasions where she blocked four or more swing attempts in a match.
All three of Placer’s selections are repeat All-League picks.
